Remember, if you want a chance to see your video on TV,
  • Do not use music.
  • Do not use product logos or images, even on clothing.
  • Do not mention any product.
  • Make sure your video length is 15 seconds or less.
  • Keep it clean: no nudity or profanity, please.
  • You must be 18 years of age or older. Read the Official Rules.
  • Go to YouTube now.

  • I got a lot of positive feedback. Did my video not get picked because of the subject matter?

Not necessarily, although the judges may take any comments posted about the video into account. Your video must abide by all rules stated in the CBS Official Rules document. From that point on, videos are judged based on their originality and creativity (40%), inspirational and compelling message (30%), quality (10%), taste and tactfulness (10%), and goodwill (10%). Judges also try to choose unique videos, so that all finalists are not displaying the same type of message.

What is the process of selecting video finalists?

To be in the running, your video must abide by all the rules in the Official Rules document. From there, videos are nominated by a CBS Interactive judging panel and go through two rounds of voting. Finalists are then contacted and asked to sign a release form.

How many videos can I upload to the 15 SECONDS group?

Users may upload one (1) video submission per person, per email address, per quarter. If you attempt to register more than once, your video will be disqualified.

How much does it cost to register for YouTube?

Registration for YouTube is free. As part of the registration process, you must read and agree with the Official Rules and the terms of the "Release" to be signed if the judges select your video.

How do I know if I'm a finalist?

If you are a finalist, you will be contacted through email by a CBS Interactive representative. If you wish to see your video on CBS.com, we suggest that you check your email regularly and reply promptly to an email from CBS.com. If we email you and do not receive a prompt reply, we may move on to the next qualifying video, and you will forfeit your chance at seeing your video on CBS.com.

What does it mean if I am a finalist?

If you are a finalist, the judging panel has selected your video to appear on CBS.com and to qualify for airing on CBS television. You must then sign a release form and follow the directions provided by a CBS contact.

Am I allowed to use music in my video if I own the copyright to it?

No. Unfortunately, CBS does not have the resources to post music that is said to be copyrighted.
